It depends on what you want- - laid back beach vibe, (also with culture, museums, theater, live music etc) or more sophisticated, dense, urban feel, better restaurants (kind of smaller nyc vibe)and a bit dirtier/sketchier. That's SD vs. SF. Enjoy

You can't go wrong with either one in my opinion, I'd personally choose San Diego but you won't have any less of a good time in San Francisco.

Depends, if you want something like NYC but still different then go with SF. It's a beautiful city, great natural setting, urban, fast paced, charming, and dense.

If you want a more relaxed, laid back vacation that is the opposite of NYC then go with San Diego. Great weather year round, laid back, nice natural scenery, and plenty to do.

To me SF is like a NYC type vacation and San Diego like a Honolulu type vacation.

I loved San Francisco - "san francisco" - Google Image Search -- I used to fly there all the time for training in the 1980/90s. My mode of transportation while there was a limo because it was cheap at the time - all company-paid. Also, we drove there from San Diego before I was married - 12 hour trip. There is something very romantic about San Francisco. When we were there, the weather changed from sunny to gloomy in an instant. That was the first time I saw rowhomes, also. I miss San Francisco. Would I live there? Probably not. The weather changes too frequently and my mood depends so much on the weather. So I would become moody in San Francisco.

Okay...
If I were to choose between the two and I only have enough money for one city and I have never been in San Diego before ---- http://images.google.com/images?q=%22san+diego%22&gbv=2&hl=en&sa=2

I would choose San Francisco if I were only with my partner.

I would choose San Diego if the kids are coming with us.

If you want to enjoy:

Excellent sandy beaches, surf, wildlife parks, and lots of SUN, then go to SAN DIEGO

Great restaurants, museums, rocky coastline and epic urban landmarks, then go to SAN FRANCISCO

Tough, choice. They're both toally fun, and way better than lame LA!
