Default Temporary places to live?

So I'm planning on starting the cross-country drive on Monday. I'm planning to be in San Diego by the end of October and need a place to stay that is either weekly or monthly just while I search for apartments and try to find a place for a November 1 move-in. I would just try to line up a place before I get there but most people seem to want to meet me in person before making an agreement (which is totally understandable.)

If anyone knows of places that rent on this kind of a basis or even know a friend or other person who would allow a clean, responsible, friendly, respectful guy to crash with them for a few days PLEASE let me know.

Thanks everyone.

Motel 6's are fairly cheap. There are a few in SD. Just google for locations and phone numbers.

Also, SD public libraries all have free WiFi internet which is on 24/7.

When library is open, you can use free computers inside.

When library is closed, you can stand outside the library with a WiFi enabled laptop.
