Im sorry I think you misunderstood my post, I live in san diego now. But we have just been thinking about maybe looking into other areas, and georgia was one of them....Yha, I dont really see too many racial problems here in SD, that is one thing I like about it here.

We moved out of San Marcos (Santa Fe Hills) last year, not because of the issues cited here but because our job situation changed. We sold our house and have seen property values fall. Our older daughter still lives in the city and likes it. Yes, traffic can be a challenge, but there are now plenty of places to eat, the Palomar Airport is convenient (I used it many times) and the elementary schools are good. It's not perfect, but it's a good place at a good price. Weather is tough to beat.

Wow, you guys make SM sound Bad...it cant be too bad tho if all those expensive homes are selling...My wife and I are flying into SD on Tuesday for a couple of weeks visiting a friend in SM.. she must lead a very sheltered life.. she never mentioned anything about gangs roaming the streets of her neighborhood... anyhow I think it will be a nice winter break from the snow here in Northern Michigan...have a nice day everyone...

WELL i dont know what the heck all you people are talking about, san marcos is BORING!!!!!!! nothing special. there is nothing to do here, they should build 20 story buildings instead of building tens of 4 story tall buildings, that would save space
other than that san marcos is safe. the gang realated deaths rate is LOW,
i dont see why you would live san marcos. i guees is just getting to big for old people.

My husband used to work at the Beaudry RV in San Marcos. I always thought San Marcos was a pretty nice area, or at least then!

There are some very good areas in San Marcos, the entire city isn't flooded with gangs. The problem is some people like to say a whole city is bad because it has certain bad areas, and I think that's a very unfair way of looking at things.

I live in Escondido but go into San Marcos often to run errands, etc. I see more good areas than bad and overall I feel safe. It's also home to Philly Franks who happens to serve some of the best cheese steaks in San Diego County.

Cool Missing San Marcos

I can't say how much I miss San Marcos, I now Live in Albuquerque Nm and it has to be one of the worst cities I have ever lived in. I love San Marcos Because it was close to everything and if you wanted to get away you have the mountains and countyside, you just have to drive a little and explore the backroads. The climate is just perfect and my two children (one in high school and the other in middle) have always done well in the school district. I have seen the traffic grow especially during the morning and evening comute, but in between those times it's not that bad. Desperatly wanting to go back home.

We just moved to San Marcos and I'm pretty happy with it. For the price its the best choice in the whole county if you have kids and a tight budget. Ok, mayber there's somewhere way down south that fits the bill too-- I have to admit we focused on areas north of the city only.

The housing prices here are reasonable (for SD county), schools are a little hit and miss, but mostly a hit. You just have to be on the ball about picking an area that is served by the better options. Certainly way better than you'll find in any of the surrounding cities.

I think the problem areas in San Marcos is confined to a few relatively small sections. And "problem" is a relative too. After spending the last 10 years near DC, I know real problems, and San Marcos doesn't have them at all.

Anyhow, I think SM doesn't deserve the bad rep its getting from posters here. It's a nice family area that seems to be really coming into its own. Lots of parks, trails, plenty of restaurants and shopping too. Traffic can be an issue, sure, but then its an issue for most places in the county.
