Lived in Ramona (SDCE) for a few years growing up. Moved back to the midwest when I started high school. SDCE was nice. Especially during the 80's, had a rural feel to it (north of San Vicente, you could own horses on your property). Yet, enough people that you didn't feel too secluded. Also, Julian was a relatively short drive away.

Minuses, you aren't near anything. From what I hear, the town has built up a lot the past 20 or so years. But, the roads out (67, 78, wildcat canyon) are windy roads that if you didn't live there you would refer to them as "mountain roads". The type with 500-800 foot drops if you go off the road the slightest bit, no guard rails (though that has changed somewhat), and the occasional car or motorcycle "over the edge". Had a teacher at my junior high go over one morning right after we moved to the midwest. And heard of a few former classmates from grade school that went over the edge in high school.

Weather isn't all that bad. Though, compared to the coastal areas, very different. Can get hot in summer. Can get snow flurries every few years in the winter. But, coming from the midwest, and living in the midwest now.... weather was countless times better. Just not the stereotypical 72 degrees all summer and 62 all winter.

Smile I grew up in Ramona!

Ramona is a great town! I grew up there and graduated high school there. My husband and I are thinking of moving there from MN in Sept. of 2009 because we miss CA so much. Yeah, Ramona is in the sticks, but it's a nice small town with less violence than some of the other towns in San Diego county. Just my two cents!

Thanks for you feedback. We lived in Idaho, New Mexico and currently, Colorado, so living in a "western" town or in the "sticks" is not an issue. We rather not live again in a high population density area and leave the cookies cutter development homes to the young growing families. Our kids brought a home in 4S ranch, but we thought the lots and rooms were small for the money. Plus the homes in general look too much the same. However, the location is great relative to excellent schools and shopping/restaurants. Your point on being far away from medical facilities is a good one, but the odds of me catching something and dying in a hospital are higher than in my home (LOL). Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

I live in Ramona; in the Estates, and you will find that it is a good town and many of the lots here are a half acre or more. There are equestrian trails and good weather through out the year. I think you will see that it is a good place to live with reasonable travel time to other locations in San Diego County. Good luck.
