It seems fire season starts up earlier and earlier every year. LA County has already had a big fire that burned thousands of acres. We know that all the brush from the 2003 and 2007 fires has pretty much grown back mostly, so I bumped this thread to remind everyone that we are in fire season, but the peak doesn't start until October when the Santa Anas start up from the desert. So prepare your family with all the supplies like you would for an earthquake but also have an evacuation route planned and make sure you don't use anything that can cause fire outside your home.

Make that "never" if the Santa Anas are blowing.

Default How to prepare for fires

Hi all. I am new to San Diego area. Just moved to Oceanside 2 weeks ago. From Philadelphia area. I am single old lady and overwhelmed with the move, new place, new people, etc.
I would appreciate someone directing me to the appropriate source for fire preparedness. Never lived in California before. So not really sure what to expect. Are we supposed to water the yard more often? Hose the exterior of the house down?
Please give as many sources of information and help as possible. Thanks in advance.

Your level of danger depends on where you live. Full wildland and wildland/urban interface areas are at the highest level of risk. Check with the personnel at your local firehouse for the advice and instructions that pertain to your area.
