I'm considering buying a condo off of Telegraph Canyon Rd. What do you think of this area. I want a nice safe neighborhood with good schools. My son is only a year, but I'm planning ahead

If it's by TC and Oleander area, there not that great condos. We and others have heard that most of the complexes around there where belt poorly, have roaches and mice. The area is a pretty safe area, minor problems with crime and the area schools are good.Halcrest,GR,Cook and the one on East Naples near Melrose are good elem schools.Hilltop Middle and high are ok,better than some schools in the county. But like I said in the opening line, not great and over priced, you can do better for how much those cost.

Are you talking about the one's directly across from Von's? Or the blue colored condos? Thanks a bunch!

Before we left back in August there were a couple of those condo's in foreclosure ,both the Blue condos and the ones directly across from Canyon Villa shopping center (Vons).

Jksouthbay might know more insight on them , but they looked ok to me from a distance. One look is worth a thousand words. I know they are 3/2 's with a garage and another parking space which is kind of nice. If they are not infested with roaches and mice, which I find hard to believe totally that all the homeowners and HOA would let the whole condo complex be overun with pests.

All I'm saying is I'd take a look at them and if you can get a good deal on one and live in it for a few years and if you don't like the area or the schools by then the market (hopefully) will be better and you can make a profit on the condo and move alittle further East in Chula Vista. Or someplace else you might run across in the mean time. Its nice that you child is not school age and have to take a chance on schools. Housing and schools get better the further East you go , but so do the prices.

Another thing you might consider is renting for a year or 6 months , I know again that when we left that I saw several for rent for about $1500 which is very reasonable IMO and might give you a clearer picture of how the condo's are.

By the way my wife and I lived in Canyon Villa Apts. located there at Telegraph Canyon and Cresent/Oleander St. We loved living there and found it very safe and convient with the 805 right there and the shopping center as well. We did move to the Eastlake area the rest of the time we were there as we liked that area even better. We can't wait to get back to Eastlake....wife is Navy and that's the only reason we had to leave.

There's 3 complexes in the area.I was talking about the ones on the NE corner of Crest@TC.I have a friend that has lived there for 5 years and she has a pretty moderate mice problem in and out the complex. The second one is on Oleander JSO TC.I think it's 947 Oleander. And then there are some sand and tan condos on the Southside of TC at the light between Halcrest-Oleander.My parents looked at those in 1986 and she claimed there where highly infested with roaches and mice. Then in 2006 when we were looking to move out here we decided to see if it has changed in 20 years,it hasn't.So if your talking about "blue ones" I'm guessing it's the ones on Oleander just south of TC?

I don't remember the cross streets exactly. I live in El Cajon and haven't been in that area for a few months. I've been looking online, but I did drive by a few months ago. Here's what they look like. I definately don't want roaches and mice as my pets!

Real Estate Listings, Homes for Sale and Rental Property Listings – REALTOR.com® (http://www.realtor.com/search/listingdetail.aspx?loc=91910&mxp=155000&bd=4&bth=4 &sid=59405cb6e36142189148cf2aa2042dcf&lid=11027772 13&lsn=2&srcnt=7 - broken link)

also the blue ones:

The first ones should be good. The second complex is the one we saw twice in 20 years and saw all the gross stuff.

Have you seen the newer condos/townhomes a little further up Telegraph Canyon rd, by the new shopping center, movie theater, and Best Buy? Those were out of my price range, but it might be worth a peek if they are desperate for sales.Traffic is worse if you have to travel north in the morning, and return home south in the evening. If I could afford to, I would have lived further north like Point Loma, or somewhere east.
