If you can get out to SD to live, do it!! The downtown is great due to the new ballpark, so if you can swing a condo or apt near there, you will not be either cold OR lonely ...
I haven't been to Dallas in awhile, but I know it's the financial center of Texas, and is (in my opinion) not as progressive or exciting as San Diego.

I have a guy friend in his early 40's who used to live in Dallas, now lives in S.D. and he's never going back ;-) Used to be single, but not anymore....met a fun, like-minded athletic girl (no, not me) in her 30s and they're happy as clams. As far as Boston goes, the culture couldn't be more different. If you like the intellectual vibe and history in Boston, you're not gonna find that in S.D. What you will find in S.D. is amazing weather beautiful views and a whole lotta transplants who got sick of scraping ice off their cars for 4 months out of the year. It's not what you would call a 'cultural center' or anything. It's still too young for that.

Spktrader -

Lots of opportunities to have fun, casual dates. Beautiful, educated, active women abound in San Diego. Meetup.com is a great way to get involved in activities that you can meet like-minded women without the "meat market" atmosphere. My advice would be to stay away from the bar scene - there's an element to San Diego that can be very superficial.
