Default Relocating to San Diego....

My Wife and I plan on relocating to San Diego next fall...I've been to San Diego several times and have an opinion of the city and where to live,shop,etc...I want to hear from the real San Diegans! Tell me the places to reside,shop,schools,etc....What part of the city/burbs is the crime rate the lowest..(with in 15 miles)who has the best schools?(Public,Private)Where's the best places to shop? What's the best beach? I've only been to Mission,Coronado and La Jolla. If you guys can give me the 411..I would truly appreciated.

Thanks,
SweetDaddy

You're kind of asking for a lot here but I'll throw some info/opinions out there. You might want to be a little more specific in what you are looking for since many people seem to be viewing this thread but no responding to it.

Places to Reside - depends on what type of neighborhood you want to live in; suburban, urban, semi-urban, rural, beach, inland, new, old, etc... SD has a good mix of neighborhoods for all types overall. Here is a link that describes many of them: http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-d...reater-sd.html

shopping - San Diego has a lot of malls that all have good selections. The best would be Fashion Valley, Horton Plaza, and University Town Center (UTC). The Las Americas outlet mall at the border is pretty damn cheap and has a ton of great name brand stores, it has the same stores as the Carlsbad Premium Outlets except its cheaper b/c of its predominant clientèle is from Tijuana. Downtown La Jolla is also good for expensive boutiques.

schools - generally the best schools are in suburban North County communities. This previous thread has a school performance map for SD County schools: http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-d...mance-map.html

crime - overall SD is a very safe place, the least crime is in areas north of I-8 generally. Basically avoid the "gang injunction" areas in the neighborhoods thread listed above

Best beach in my opinion is Windansea in La Jolla.
