Apartments in zip code 92105

I grew up in that zip code all of it is ghetto,unfortunately that is where your job will be.I think you would be better off living in La mesa.Anywhere east of baltimore ave. or on the north side of the 8 freeway are the best areas of La Mesa It would be no more than 10 to 15 minutes to your job and you wont even have to get on the freeway. I was looking at apartments in zip code 92021, El Cajon, NE of La Mesa. Seemed pretty cheap compared to other areas. Is this a good safe area?

El Cajon has a lot of run-down areas and some nice neighborhoods too, esp up in the hills. Do I think a 1000 apartment in El Cajon will be any safer or nicer than say, Normal Heights? No, not really. It's a lot farther away from your work, and 8E can get pretty bad in the afternoon from College all the way to El Cajon. La Mesa is a good option too.

I was in San Diego for a week and my colleagues suggested to go for the La Mesa area. They asked me to basically stay anywhere North of 8.

Any tips on the La Mesa area? What areas are good and what to avoid. Also, does it get really hot in La Mesa in summer?

I stayed in a hotel in the Kearney Mesa area for the week and it was pretty hot for the time (second week of March).

La Mesa is pretty much nice overall... nice little downtown. No real bad areas.

Yes it gets hot, as hot as Kearney Mesa at least... once you move 5 miles past the coast you will get 10+ degrees hotter in summer. A plus though is that we don't get the marine layer.

No offense to your friends but people who say "live north of the 8" have usually never been to any of the neighborhoods south of the 8 :-)

If they are where I think they are, University by the trashy triangle (Chollas Pkwy) then the apartments are OK but the area is not so great. Go north, College Way by the Big 5 is a good area more towards El Cajon Boulevard.
