AT&T or Cox cable. Which is best?
I'm moving to a area that, according to the property management, you have a choice of these two cable/internet companies. Any opinions on service and costs, etc on these two?

Your going to get mixed opinions because it's ultimately a matter of preference. Both companies have their problems, there's just no perfect cable or phone company out there.
I have been with COX since 2003 and I have very few complaints. I had AT&T for my home phone service when it was still called SBC, but I switched to digital telephone through COX. Now I have my TV, phone, & internet all through COX and couldn't be happier. I have not had to many issues, when I have the technicians that have come out did a very good job for the most part.
In terms of price you can make a case for both because they both are in competition with eachother, so the prices can be comparable but ultimately I feel you get more for your money with COX, and the internet service is better than AT&T's DSL.
Again, this is just my opinion but I hope it helps.

I agree with the above. I too live in an area with a choice and had ATT until an incident of a moving van collecting all the hardware from my street's houses when it went by. I called it in as the wires were still in the street and before the call was over they said I was liable to fix the repairs to a sum of 100+ . I informed them that by law they had to provide me with 911 service so they came straight out and turned off my phone except for 911. I switched to Cox that same day.
Every week since then they've been trying to get me back. They must be kidding. I wouldn't use ATT again if they paid ME.

I would go with cox.Just because if there is something that goes wrong, they don't charge us for it.I'm pretty sure AT&T does.

My experience with Cox has been spotty. I do not feel they are forthright nor do they take ownership of their hardware/network problems.
I just had an issue with my cable modem. Out of nowhere, the attached wireless router stopped working. A roomie called cox tech, the tech made a house call, stated the wireless router was broke and charged us $75.
I'm a tech and everyday I deal with people - helpdesk and other techs - who are completely full of it. To me, it sounded like an easy out. Long story short I had an extra cable modem, brought it up and the wireless router worked flawlessly thereafter.
Cox wouldn't accept their modem was at fault. It took four calls before they removed the charge. And what really had my ire was that the first two times I called, they tried to up-sell me a home networking package - which makes no sense b/c I just diagnosed and fixed my home networking problem.
So that's one of my experiences with Cox.
Hey techheads - not to highjack the thread, I have a related question here: http://www.city-data.com/forum/scien...ml#post6590701

I switched from Time Warner Cable to At&T U-Verse for television and internet about a year or two ago, I don't have a phone line through them. I have been very satisfied with AT&T and get a much better deal on TV and internet through them. I get 3 cable boxes included, one of which is a DVR that records 4 shows at once and has bigger storage capacity that what I had with TWC. You can also watch recorded shows from the DVR on any box in the house. I get EVERY single channel available, all the movie and sports channels and its about $125/month. I use to pay the same for much, much less from TWC. Every now and then I get a call from TWC trying to get me back but when I tell them what I get and what I pay they just say "thanks for your time" and hang up b/c they know they cannot even come close to matching that deal.

That seems to be the general theme of my move to SD. Thanks everybody for the replies. I don't know which way to go. I want fast download speeds, my girlfriend likes lots of cable and DVR.
