Hey Everyone,
I wanted to tell you that I have read through the forum, and you guys give great advice. I thought I would try my luck:

I am currently helping my parents choose an area to move to in the SD area. I'll give you some background info: We are originally from Ohio, my parents are in their early 60s, and are looking for a clean safe community. They also happen to be Lebanese (Think Danny Thomas, Darrel Issah from Cali) lol. Being in somewhat relative proximity to a Lebanese Church could be cool, but it doesn't matter all that much.

They have looked at the areas of Temecula, San Marcos, Fallbrook and Bonsall. Their price range is up to 450k. They love the idea of a "mother in law" rental unit above a garage with it's own entrance to rent to others or have for when guests come over. My parents love greenery, granite countertops and good kitchens

What community sounds like it would fit them? They considered orange county, but I think they are priced out of the market there.

This will be one of their Christmas presents, real input from Californians! Thanks all!

They might want to give Laguna Woods Village a look see. It's in Oeange County, and it is still very affordable.

Seven Oaks in Rancho Bernardo might be a good option, it is much closer to San Diego and not so far inland as Temecula. They might be able to find a place with a casita for guests.

I guess I should have mentioned, they refuse to live in a retirement community, they tend to dislike high HOA fees (who doesn't) and they want a home that is able to be rented before they make the plunge to move out there.
I told them, you have to be willing to give and take, you can't find everything you want, but that is their wish list, and above all-- safe and clean area where people are friendly.

There seem to be a lot of retirees in Temecula area, its a bit far from anything other then wineries... but if they like wine, that might be a big plus. Its getting really affordable there recently too..

The High Country Villas on Willowspring Avenue in Encinitas are pretty popular with the older folks.

Shadowridge in Vista could work. Or Rancho del Oro in Oceanside is also in their price range. Hint for them: don't call it "Cali", no Californian ever calls it that.

Native since 1958.

I live in Fallbrook and there are some very nice places with golf course views in their price range. Fallbrook has a nice village atmosphere with lots of clubs and social groups, many retired people from all over. Your parents would be very much at home here and the weather is much more comfortable than in Temecula.
