Between Santee/"Klantee" and Lakeside, it's one of the most intolarent cities in San Diego if your Hispanic or Black. I've gone to the Best Buy and Vons in Santee a couple of times, and I swear certain workers were staring me down, and would follow me througout the store like I was going to steal something. I didn't like that, and actually confronted one of the vons employees, and he finally back off, and apologized. It's like some people in Santee get all freak out when they see a young black or hispanic male walking into a store. Automatically they are singled out. Not too mention some of the nasty stares I get from while sitting at a stop light on Mission Gorge Rd from all the Hicks in there big trucks. A friend used to live in Klantee, so that is why I went there, but now since he moved, I have not been to that hater place in a long time. I have never once in my life seen a confederate flag, but Santee was the first. Even some Bro's fly the flag from there trucks! I couldn't believe it.
Regarding La Mesa, it's a nice city, of course you got your nice spots and bad spots, the nicer newer areas of La Mesa are towards Lake Murray and near San Carlos. The not so great places are around University Ave, and of course El Cajon Blvd
Over the years it's kinda gotten worse I guess, I believe it's because the lack of good businesses off University and El Cajon blvd, Gangster from SouthEast SD, City Heights, North Park, College Area. The area is getting run down. There was a robbery off University at some travel agency a couple of years ago, some black guy robbed the place and shot the owner a couple of times, but the owner had a gun on him so he fired back one shot, and killed the robber right out front of his business.
When I first heard of this happening, I was like "Daaaammmn" this crazy stuff is going on in La Mesa?
Overall though, La Mesa is still a nice place, but overtime I see it turning into another El Cajon, it's sad to say All the jobs there are low paying, and it doesn't serve the middle class well. Plus the city is broke, and it will take a long time for them to recover.

Everyplace has it's good and bad. He is only telling you about the bad.
My brother's girlfriend (black) is visiting from NY and is staying in City Heights, Azalea Park. Many people on this forum would say it's dangerous and don't live there. She says it's fine. It's all perspective. You need to see for yourself.

There is nothing wrong with LEGAL Latino immigrants who want to be productive citizens and learn English coming here to become citizens.
But with the illegals you get all sorts of people - drug dealers, murderers, child molesters, tax cheats, terrorists, etc......
|
One of the most ridiculous statements I read on this forum in a while.
One, most child molesters are U.S. citizens, illegals aren't tax cheats (considering how much they make, the government would probably pay THEM), and I've never heard about a terrorist who was an illegal Latino immigrant.
Two, the kind of people we get through chain family immigration is substantially the same or worse than illegals.
If I were in charge of immigration policy, I'd raise quotas on H1Bs, make it much easier to H1B immigrants to naturalize, and impose strict quotas on family-based unskilled immigration.
On the subject, my wife lived in La Mesa north of the 8 for a couple of years, she had no problems. We were looking at Mt. Helix as one of the options when we were buying a house. Unfortunately, most of Mt. Helix is assigned to a Spring Valley high school and that was a no go for us. Some parts of the eastern slopes are assigned to Valhalla High, which is much better. But most of those are technically El Cajon.

What, do people look at minorities all cross-eyed out there? Isn't Santee building up and becoming less backwoods?

Yes they do. If your Mexican/Hispanic, you get the mean eye stare. Believe me I know people at work, that admit Santee is a racist city. And this is coming from White folks themselves that live in Klantee.
I'm sure it's not as bad like many years ago, lot's of new new development has improved SanTucky's image, but it's still pretty backwoods and has it's country folks.
