Lakeside?
Can anyone tell me anything about it? DH and I are military and there is base housing in Lakeside that we are picking as our choice. We do have a 15 month old son as well.
So, can you all tell me the good, bad and ugly?
Also, if there is any church preschool type things in the area?
thank you!!

My husband grew up there and his parents haved lived there for 40+ years. They live in a older community called Eucalyptus Hills. EH is an area where horse lovers live (or used too). Most of the residents in this area are older now too. Last time I visited there were some nice subdivisions popping up including some nice shopping centers nearby.
The public schools aren't too good in the area he grew up in and his Dad discouarged us from moving there for this reason. I would difinately consider private school as you already are.
We haven't been there in 8 years but I hear there is a lot of growth in the nearby town called El Cajon. I hope this helps.

Thank you for responding. That helps out a lot.
Our son is younger so he won't be in school until he's 6, but, he will be in a preschool type and I don't mind a drive to take him to a good one

we go out there all the time. It is a semi-rural area. Eucalyptus Hills is a nice area with large homes on acreage. Winter Gardens also has some private hilly sections that are nice. There is a lot of horse property in that area. However the more central part of Lakeside around the terminus of 67 has a lot of large apartment complexes which are full of some fairly sketchy people. I think it is better to live in the hills surrounding if you can. I like it out there a lot, great access to outdoor activities, but traffic in and out is a problem as is some fairly extreme summer heat.

I live in the Lakeview neighborhood in Lakeside and I can tell you that this is a great town. We sometimes get stereotyped as "a bunch of rednecks", but this town has character. If you like endless cookie cutter suberbs, Lakeside is probably not for you. It's unincorpoated and not as clean as some places, but it's a great town.
By the way, God bless you for your service to our country. Having the military in town is the only thing keeping San Diego sane...

church preschool
To the OP asking about church preschools in Lakeside. You might want to check out New Heights Community church in Santee. Not too far, and good people there.
