This, to me, is the ultimate question!

Do you choose the smaller place that is closer to the action (Downtown, museums, better shopping and restaurants, nighlife, airport, etc) or do you choose the bigger place that is further away from everything I mentioned?

If you asked me, I'd rather be closer to the action.

I'll pass.

I think the thing I probably hate the most is the fact that whenever you ask someone where they are from, and they say Oceanside, they begin apologizing in the next sentence.

Combine this with the crime, poor schools, poor access in/out (or the more desirable area next to Fallbrook) and just general poor reputation within San Diego (i.e. poor perception = lower resale).....sorry. When I worked in Orange County for a year, I tried real hard to like it there, but could never get a warm and fuzzy.

Sometimes, there is no empirical evidence as to why one doesn't like a place, it's just a feeling they get.

My bad Socket, wasn't really asking you to post stuff. Just merely making a statement that poster can usually write stuff without having to defend themselves as long as its truthful.

Oceanside's problems are well documented. No need to air out the laundry.

I've lived in places where I had the same feeling as you do/did about Oceanside.

Nonetheless, Oceanside has gotten alot better in the last 10 years, and because of its prime location between San Diego and Orange County, I only see it getting better.

There are also some good schools in Oceanside if you go back into the the newer areas around Rancho Del Oro. I like that area back there, but the access in/out of there on the 76 is often a daunting task.

Not a horrible area by any means, but compared to the rest of San Diego, it's near the bottom of my list.

I haven't kept up with the news, but "IF" Oceanside gets the Chargers and they decided to build a new stadium on the Old Goat hill golf course, it will be interesting to see how that area will turn out.

If it has a similar affect as Petco Park regenerating the downtown area, the changes could be positive.

Wow, interesting. That's a for real deal ?

If so, that will definitely regenerate the area and help more of a coastal 'uptown' feel.

If that happens, it's investment opp time....

Given the places they are looking at, O'side is the most attractive location. But it's still a ways off.

I have read a lot of peoples postings on here. I haven;t really seen anything that makes me want to live anywhere around there. I am from a small mid west town and I need to know (truly) where is a safe city close to beach that I can let me 11 year old play outside. If you know of such an area I would be very much appreciative. Thanks
