As we near our relocation to the Carlsbad/Encinitas area, I continue to do research on neighborhoods, schools, etc. I like what I see in Olivenhain but I am trying to find the "down town", or "Main street"- basically just a central area where people meet for coffee, lunch, etc. All I found is a Rite Aid and a few stores at the intersection of Encinitas Blvd & Rancho Santa Fe Rd. (Please tell me there's more!?)

Also, I would love to live within a short bike ride to a nice park. What are the best kid-friendly parks around that area?

Thanks!

There used to be a poster on here named Olivenhain, but I haven't seen him here in a while, so here goes. There really is no "downtown" Olivenhain, per se. Most of the community is sort of hidden behind long winding roads, gates, etc. It's a sprawling horse community. The intersection you've identified is where the shopping centers are, but there is no real downtown, central meeting spot for people in Olivenhain. Most people go into either downtown Encinitas, the Forum Shops mall, the village of Rancho Santa Fe for lunch, coffee, etc.
As for kid-friendly parks, check out Stagecoach Park off Leucadia Blvd. east of El Camino Real or Cottonwood Creek Park on Encinitas Blvd west of I-5. Those are two of the best.
And I must say, in all my years in the area, I've never heard or seen residents of the community described as Olivenhainians!! Maybe because it's such a mouthful to say
