Really - who needs 2000+ sf? I use 4 rooms in my house: bedroom (where the only sf that matters is the size of the mattress), the bathroom (a big shower is nice), the kitchen (ok I do like a big kitchen), and the family room (and only the size of the TV is importnat).

As TristramShandy implied - get out and enjoy San Diego.

Kids don't need square footage. They need shelter. If they are dry, comfortable, and safe - what more do they need from a house?
