Default Masters Degree in Homeland Security at SDSU

Hi all! Posted this a few times around, but havent gotten the answers I;m looking for yet so figured I would try here.

I am considering getting my masters in this field. Can anyone offer insight on what types of jobs can come from this and what the job prospects will be for the next few years.

Also what schools have the most respected programs for this? So far I have just looked into San diego state u. I'd really appreciate any info! Thanks!

Can't answer your question about schools, sorry. But, a masters in Homeland Security could be used for several things, CBP, ICE, INS, FBI, etc. Regardless of your degree you will have to pass a written exam, oral exam, physical, and a background check. Depending on the department you go into you will have to attend and academy for approx. 5 months. A degree will get you a higher pay grade but you will not be allowed to forgo the academy training. You will need to contact these departments directly to find an exam location near you. Also, right now job security is pretty good but it would not suprise me if the federal government put a hold on hiring soon. They have been recruiting pretty heavily for the last few years but with the current economic crisis they may be forced to cut back. If this is really what you are interested in contact DHS soon and take the exam before they cut back. Hope that helps!
