I am finally here in SD and found a place... tell me about these area's!!!
Hi Guys!
My husband and I are in SD for the week (3/8-3/15) and have already scouted out about 10 places to live.... 2 great possibilities... let me know what you guys think!
We really wanted to be by the beach in OB and found a cheap cottage but it is TINY... $900 on Abbott Street less than a block to the beach. It is OK but not many perks other than sand as your yard and also I liked that it was more neighborhood like... lots of people out walking their dogs etc...
We also seen a place in North Park today that was a BEAUTY and has the space and anemities we wanted. $1095 on Ohio Street, seemed like a nice area, although maybe a little more... redeveloped? there did seem to be some seedier neighborhoods closer to University and 30th.... I really liked this place and it seemed very safe, although I don't know about walking my dog all over this area by myself?
What do you think??? Any opinions (PROS and CONS) are welcome... I NEED HELP DECIDED QUICK!!!!!

North Park is fine to walk around by day. By night, some areas are not going to feel as safe. However it is going to be fairly quiet.
OB, right near the beach will be a zoo in the summertime, with lots of drugs, drinking and partying.

You got your typical homeless and crack heads hangin around North Park at night, the gangs "Crips" are long gone. But overall you should be fine. The place has really turned around in last 6 years, nobody would of been saying anthing nice about North Park 8 or 9 years ago. All the redevelopment has made it a lot nicer, but you still got pockets that are not as safe, just be aware of your surroundings.

Yeah, but at the expense of the poor and working class people, and higher land values forcing small business owners out of business. It also ruins and takes away that originality and culture of the neighborhood because of the less minorities around, and upper class yuppies that tend whine and complain about every little thing, East Village is a perfect example of genrification that has gone wrong or built up too fast, by the city ignoring the homeless problem, now all the stuck ups that recently purchased a condo there, are all bitching about the homeless, the old saying goes "They were there first". North Park doesn't need new housing, or anything for that matter, just some paint and nicer sidewalks that's about it.

Another thing you might like about OB is Dog Beach, which as far as I know is the only beach in San Diego that you can take your dog to any time of the day year round. All other beaches usually restrict dogs to the evenings after 5p or 6p depending on what time of year. Ob is cool overall, it has that funky, hippy vibe.

Why live inland if you can afford the beach?

Hmm would I rather live next to original poor minorities or whining upper class yuppies ... tough call.

Hi Guys! Thanks for your quick replies I am looking forward to hearing more of what you have to say. We did apply for the place in North Park because it was quite a big nicer and we won't be around the drinking... the hippies woulda been ok with me I love the OB vibe and if we don't like North Park we could always move closer to the beach when we can maybe afford a bit nicer of a place!!! So HOPEFULLY everything goes smooth with the application process otherwise I might be hunting again!
