Default Commuting from Oceanside to San Clemente? Oceanside in general?

Hi all! My husband just got a job in San Clemente, and we are thinking of living in Oceanside so we can afford a nice house What is traffic like going from there to San Clemente? He has to be at work around 7:30 and would leave work around 3:30 or 4pm.

I'd appreciate info on the good/bad areas of Oceanside, too. I've never been there. My kids and I will be going out before my husband to scout out the area, so I want to know what areas to not bother with.....

I'm so excited! I can't wait to get there!

Did you mean to include a link to another Oceanside post or just to keep reading this one we're posting on now?

Oceanside has its good spots and bad spots. It isnt a long distance to San clemente as my wife and I make the trip often by bicycle but the commute can be horrible. It is definetly cheaper than San Clemente but no where near as upscale and Oceanside has a significant gang problem in certain areas. My mother in law works at Oceanside High School and has seen many of her students killed to gang violence. that being said, if by chance I dont move my family from CA altogether, Oceanside will be one of the few places we can afford on a six figure salary. Check the Arrowwood and Rancho del Oro areas for homes, both should be pretty safe areas in that city.

Traffic is miserable and stressful at those hours.
The best way to get to work in San Clemente from Oceanside is to bike to the transit center, put your bike on the Metrolink train, ride the train to San Clemente, and bike to work. The return trip works in the reverse order. Or, on a nice, long day, you could take advantage of the hospitality of the USMC and ride home through Camp Pendleton after riding along the beach bluffs in San Onofre. Saves money on gas, car maintenance, and stress related medical conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease! Think about it!
