Where should a 30 something female live?
Hello, I am relocating to San Diego and wondering where I should live. I am a mid-thirties single female. I will not know anyone in San Diego, so I want to live in an area where I will be able to meet other single professionals around my age.
I can live anywhere between downtown and Carlsbad. My main office will be in Clairemont, but I will occassionally commute to Orange County and Chula Vista. I have a small dog, so somewhere pet friendly will be preferred. I currently live in downtown Denver, and love being able to walk to restaurants and nightlife. I have never lived by the beach, but I am very outdoorsy (run, hike, bike), so I am not sure what would be more ideal. (beach life - downtown life)
I really appreciate the help!

I kinda feel San Diego is city-lite. The Gas Lamp/DownTown I feel is touristy and built with them in mind. I lived downtown for four months and didn't feel the vibe.
Try UpTown, the North Park area near Balboa park. Nice vibe. Plenty of interestingly cool spots.
La Jolla has a lot to offer as well, may be workth checking out. I imagine the area is pricier compared to others. But you'll get nice restraurants and a night life and the beach, and some awesome trails to hike (Torey Pines).

I also feel Downtown is more geared towards tourists than residents. The main problem I have with downtown is it still doesn't have enough of the day-to-day amenities. I would recommend La Jolla or the Hillcrest / Balboa Park neighborhoods as well.

I've been living in San Diego, I live in Sherman Heights (walking distance from downtown). I would say that Downtown or Hillcrest/Northpark area would fit you very well. If you prefer the beach I would pick Mission Bay (It has a pretty nice and huge park with a really cool waterfront).
Good luck and welcome to SD.

Yup, those neighborhoods around northern Balboa Park(Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Banker's Hill, North Park, University Heights, South Park) seems to be your best bet next to Downtown San Diego. Walkable, dense and you can go to Balboa Park everyday. I bring my pets there almost ever afternoon since there is a dog park there as well.
They also improved the trails into the inner and wooded area of the park. I checked them out yesterday and they are very nice!
There is also something happening there each week so you can go to urban exploring every weekend.
They are also a little bit more livable compared to downtown imo and will be pet friendlier as well.
