Yeah like stated in a previous post. San Diego and California in general don't have a Black Middle Class. Because everything is so damn expensive, it's very hard to move on up out here, especially for minorities. Your either stuck in SouthEast Diego or "Day-Go" the way I like to call it or you move out of state. I mean not all of SouthEast is bad, there are some nice pockets in Lincoln Park which have a gated community, but unfortuately the outter area is not so great

The biggest problem living out here, is your money doesn't get you far in SD like it would in other places. You have to make really good money to afford to live happily in Cali. Basically everyones on the struggle and grind, unless you make 100K a year, and even some of those upper middle class people are having a hard time affording to live, but that's mainly because they are buying extra crap they don't need.

I think El Cajon is increasing in Black population, while the SD black population is decreaseing because the cost of living is cheaper over there, and it doesn't have all the gang problems like South San Diego does, so that's probably why many younger black families are moving into parts of El Cajon, while the older one's are moving out of state.

I don't see why anybody black or hispanic would live in La Jolla. The place has no social or racial diversity, and the people are mostly all old uptight rich white people, just like Coronado

North Park is a chill spot, everybody lives in North Park, but in recent years it's gotten expensive, you can still find some cheap apartments though.

My vote would be North Park

Diverse is good. You probably wouldn't want to live anywhere where everyone is the same race/ethnicity in CA. There are a few exceptions, i.e. the "Black Beverly Hills" in LA, but overall you should be looking to live in a diverse (i.e. black/white/latino/asian all in the same neighborhood). San Diego has a very small black population percentage but that is not to say there are not middle-class blacks living in middle class neighborhoods in San Diego, just not many of them.

Orange County is mostly wealthy, white and asian. LA is the most diverse. Riverside County can be very diverse as much of it has become an extension of the LA / OC megaplex. A lot of blacks relocated there from LA in the past 10 years.

So I'm lookin to find an African-American neighborhood to settle into.

Right now I'm renting in La Jolla. But I want to buy a home in a mainly AA neighborhood.

I'm just in from NY. Maybe I'll buy here or maybe in LA.

You should try Baldwin Hills which is in Los Angeles. It's a large black African American community with sucessful black people living there. Mainly "THE BLACK BEVERLY HILLS"

There is an African American middle class. Just not a concentrated one, at least not in San Diego. I mean I'm middle class and single, living in Rancho Bernardo, and I'd be lucky to see one other black person a week that isn't just passing through from the north i.e. Oceanside.

El Cajon would not be a place if I were an African American to live.

Honestly, networking does not require you to live in the same neighborhood.

That is why we have cars.

Yup, that is what everyone's been saying. That middle class African Americans live in the same places where middle class of any other races live
