Default What is Bonita like??

We are relocating to Bonita for my husband's work. We don't know anything about the area. What's it like? What kind of repulation does it have? How are the schools? What are the best neighborhoods, Emerald Ranch looks nice. We're thinking of buying a home either in Bonita, Mt. Helix or Rancho San Diego. Any insight is truly appreciated.
Thank you

Bonita is a wonderful area.

There are a lot of people that own horses there.

It is mostly a white community and very safe.

Kind of boring place but in many ways that is good.

Close to the freeways and has a small town country feel.

Nice area with large lots and small ranches. No apartments or multi-family to speak of save a few near the freeways. Similar to Mount Helix but flatter. There are some very nice homes in all of the areas you mentioned, personally I would choose Mt. Helix before the others because it is more secluded, has amazing views, and is closer to a village setting (La Mesa Village). The nice part of Rancho San Diego is a bit more remote than I'd like. Bonita is very comparable to somewhere like Olivenhain or the Escondido semi-rural areas without the massive price premium.

It used to be mostly a white community, but by now Hispanics outnumber whites in all age cohorts under 40. (Not that there's anything wrong with it)

I agree with all but the second point: Like other parts of the South Bay, Bonita has become much more diverse with Hispanics and Filipinos as well as Caucasian.

It does have the small town feel and has recently added a very nice library. There are lots of small bistro type restaurants (Asian, Italian, etc.) and a nice golf course with a walking/horse trail around the perimeter as well.
