South-East San Diego Safe For African-Americans ?
Hi folks !
I'm very new to SanDiego.
I've heard from some folks that South-East SD is an African-American & Latino mixed neighborhood.
But that its not really middle-class, which I'm looking for.
Also I'm checking to see if its safe for African-Americans.
Is there a bad racial tension between Latinos & African-Americans like what they got in LosAngeles ?
Theres lots of fighting & killing between Latinos & African-Americans in LA.
If it is I'm not up for that !

No not at all, San Diego Blacks and Hispanics get along perfectly. We don't have all that racial tension like they do up in LA. Like I said certain sections of Lincoln Park can be nice, and you wont have to worry about gettin shot or anything like that, since the majority of the gangs in Lincoln have been cracked down on. The gang injunctions have forced some of these guys to move on out. Emerald hills is also mostly African American, somehat middle class mixed in with low income, but being around you own kind, it helps offset any problems.
The best advice I can give you, is to just drive around and check out these spots yourself. Rolando is considered a suburb, but an old suburb, I think Rolondo is safe because a lot of old timers have stuck around. I had a few black friends that live in Rolando, and they never experienced any kind of racial issues with there White residents. White people will be white people, they stare, are noisy, are all up in your business, but will leave you alone if you are a good neighbor.

I guess because I come from a upbringing of having very diverse friends I find your question a bit off, but nonetheless, if you want the middle-class lifestyle, what does it matter that there might be a lack of blacks in the area? I am black btw, and will also be migrating to SD.
Why not live in a safe, middle-class neighborhood, and then venture out to join groups, volunteer work and what not that involves African-Americans? It's really sad that so many still want to isolate themselves from other races.
Traveling across this great planet, I've come across so many fascinating people of all backgrounds, from the time I was in Haiti, to the time I visited a high school foreign exchange student I used to date that was from Zurich, Switzerland.
People are people, no matter their color, ethnicity, and background.

San Diego is not LA. Southeast SD is not South Central LA. Homicides in San Diego tend to be gang and drug related. Most of Southeast San Diego is just working class surburbia.

Well I want the best of both worlds.
To want to live in a middle-class & African-American neighborhood is not being prejudice.
I don't dislike other kinds of folks.
I just feel more comfortable among African-American middle-class folks.
To each his own choice I say !

Very true, to each his own, but what if you cannot have your cake and eat it too? Often and very sadly you won't find the hard working, and also predominately african american communities in a place like SD (I may be making an assumption here but I think it's correct).
But I am with you on being around blacks that are hard working, intellectual crowds more so than those who greet you with "What's good, homey." Ugh...

I think you need to readjust your perspective. You are focusing on race when you should be focusing on diversity.
