My husband and I are considering moving to IB to buy a home. We have lived in Clairemont for over a year and have been very spoiled by convenience. We have at our finger tips Costco, Vons, Target, Sprouts, Trader Joe's - and live between two malls. We have driven down to IB three times and spent the day there as we consider our move (with the hopes of buying a home) and LOVE the beach area. I spent some time driving east on Palm Ave to look for shopping centers and ended up in a pretty ghetto area (no where that I would want to shop - its depressing to look at, yuck!). I did a few map apps and saw stuff 15/20 mins away, but there HAS to be centers closer right? I enjoy the small mom/pop stores, and there are some places in Coronado as well that look cute, but you can only get so far with small stores. Where do you go for the rest of your major shopping?

That is the bad thing about IB. Coronado also only has small stores that mostly cater to tourists. No Target, Costco, etc....

Most people go to Chula Vista and Eastlake- there you can find Sprouts, Trader Joes (Eastlake), Target, Costco, etc....you will have to drive. If that is a problem for you, I would not move to IB.

That is one of the negatives of being in a small beach city.

Yup, you would have the same problem in OB, PB, and MB. Actually, I think PB has a has a Haggen and Whole Foods.

Costco and Target are both on Palomar just up the freeway. They won't be at your fingertips but you're also not having to drive across town.

If that doesn't, you could always shop near your work where ever that may be.

Your frustration with major shopping venues in IB is pretty much one of the reasons I love it. And one of the reasons it has stayed as the kind of spot you are now finding "neat", "quaint" even. If your focus in life is consumerism, go live in a consumerism area. Leave IB for the simple folks.
