I just went to the Normal St DMV and it was a NIGHTMARE. Huge line just to take a ticket. I have an appt in 3 hours and I wasn't confident I would be done with everything. Need to get car registered and new drivers license. Had to come back because I forgot my passport to prove my citizenship. Gee. What was I thinking?

Is there a DMV that isn't AS crowded? Also, going first thing in the morning... is that something that might cut the wait down? Someone said the Clairemont DMV is a bit better.

Thanks in advance.

The longest I've waited at the Clairemont DMV is 1.5 hours. Not bad at all. It's big, and they have a lot of workers, so the lines seem to go pretty quickly.

I've always thought the Normal St one was better than the Clairemont one and I usually opt to go to Normal over Clairemont. When I see the wait times run across that message board Clairemont is usually the longest. One time it was so long and it showed the Normal St as having such a shorter wait that I hopped in my car and drove down and got processed quicker than if I would have stayed and waited in line there. Maybe check out Chula Vista too.

You should try the dmv scheduler thinggie. Try each one of the DMVs across the county, and a few should give you an appointment the next day.

The last time we did that, it gave us Poway and Escondido, so I am assuming those will tend to be the least crowded.

Oh boy do I hate the DMV! I used to do the dmv paperwork for Bob Stall Chevrolet and El Cajon Mercedes Benz and made several visits to the EC dmv out on Graves (is that right? It's been a while) and even though I had special appts and could go to the dealer room, it really sucked! Plus, nobody that works at the dmv is ever happy, must be a requirement to hate life to work there, or it just turns you that way!

I had the same problem today. The place looks like a homeless shelter. I might go to the one in EC, and do it first thing in the morning.

Is there a reason you're not making an appt? I went to Normal Street with an appt. Got there 10 mins before my time, the place was a madhouse, but when you have an appt, you don't wait in the line to get the ticket thing. There is a window inside that you walk right up to and check in for your appt. I was out the door 5 mins after my appt time. Inside less than 20 mins.

The OP states they made an appointment, speaking for myself, I had always heard that the concept of getting things done quicker with an appointment at the DMV was a fallacy, and that it doesn't matter whether you have one or not. Thanks FancyPants for setting the record straight.

You never have to wait more than an hour.
