Hello all,

more and more I am thinking about moving to San Diego at least for a while. I was there few times for a vacation and absolutely loved that. So I would like to escape from Europe and give it a try :-)

However I am totally unsure about areas which I should look for. I would say that La Jolla, Coronado were my favourite ones during my stay, so I´m thinking about some nice apartment there? But of course I know there is much more so I am asking you guys, who live in SD what would you recommend me?

I am 23, single male, who´s into sports, beach, ocean and fun. Money aren´t actually that big deal so I want something clean, close the beach, friendly and especially safe, but please not snobby. Anybody has some idea?

Thank you

Mike

Around $2300-$3000/month would be ideal. I work from home on my laptop, so you don´t have to take in mind an availibility of work in that area.

You might enjoy the communities along the North County coast (primarily Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad). You could find an apartment (or even a small house) with your budget and might find the area suits your other needs.

3000 will get you into several nice little apartments within a block of the beach here in La Jolla. So if you already know you like the area, I would say go for it. There is one I can think of here in the heart of the Village that sounds perfect for you. A 2 bdrm near the recreation center for sports. Walking distance to the beach and shopping. Plus wide, beautiful views of the cove. Haha, no...it's not my listing. I just happened to show it to someone recently, and was impressed. I think you'll find more to do in La Jolla than Coronado if those are your main choices.

Encinitan: Thank you for your tips, I will check that. How is the night life in those areas? I really want something not boring. What about Mission Beach? I remember there was very active night life and lot of beach parties.

Ah thanks SDinsider, do you have hyperlink on that (not yours of course hahah ) listing?

Well Coronado and La Jolla are not mine main choice, those are just two areas which I remember most from my visits. I understand that there is a problem of my view on those areas as I am thinking about them as tourist not citizen so maybe I feel them little differentely than you.

So basically guys if you have to compare La Jolla, Coronado, Del Mar and Encinitas from citizen view, what would you say about each one and what would you pick?

I don't have a link handy on me. But it's on the 1000 block of S Coast Blvd. I'm sure you could search it out easy enough. Let me know if you can't and I'll be happy to look it up for you. The north coast deserves a look for sure. I have nothing against any of the 4 areas you mention. Which one I would pick may be irrelevant for you. There are good things about each. Mission beach is another animal though. Much more young party crowd. I would imagine that a person who chooses La Jolla for a vacation, would not be the type who would want to live in Mission Beach. Well....some small pockets maybe.

For a young single guy, I'd go with Mission Beach.

Something like this: 2ba Unique "50's" Beach Cottage OPEN HOUSE Sun. 9/12 11-12pm (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/apa/1947617759.html - broken link)

I wouldn't recommend MB due the amount of transients and gang activity. If safety is the #1 concern I'd look further North like Encinitas or Del Mar.
