An earthquake struck at 8:39 p.m. with a magnitude 5.0. It was centered about 1 mile east of Lennox.
It is interesting. I didn't feel it until around 8:42 so we could easily calculate the P and S wave propagation speed through the local lithography.

USGS has a web site where you can take a quick survey and tell them if you felt anything:

M5.0 – Greater Los Angeles Area, California

They already have 4000+ responses.

I've lived in Southern CA all my life and have obviously felt worse quakes. I'm just trying to get used to feeling them on the third floor of an apt. building. It's a bit different. LOL

You got a little bit of swaying action going on the 3rd floor, eh?

Yeah that is always a fun sensation. Nothing beats sitting in your recliner and feeling like you are in a hammock, heh.

Try being on the first floor for the big Northridge earthquake; thought the whole building was going to fall on our heads. I still get totally creeped out if I hear cupboard doors banging open and shut (I guess noises stick with you). We slept in my husband's studio for two months afterward because it took so long for a city inspector to give it the okay (like I could trust him).

Tonight's earthquake was in the Hawthorne/Inglewood/El Segundo area of the South Bay (lotta people don't know where Lennox is). Felt it here in Cbad, but didn't feel the two (so far) aftershocks.

When we lived on the second floor of an apartment (third if you count the garages on the first level) we felt every tiny quake. Now we're in a sturdy, older, single story house and I felt absolutely nothing last night. I though my friends had lost their minds until I saw official evidence. I could get used to this house business .
