Question Marriott Marina or Coronado Island Marriott??????????

Have August trip planned first timer to California and love the location and description of the pool, hotel at the Marriott Marina but scared to death of the train noise that is talked about there..Using Marriott Points and waited too long and now Coronado Island is not available for August stay for dates we need...

Been thinking of requesting the highest floor possible..I think building is 20 floors, but I am a light sleeper and train noise scares me to death!

Any locals can shed some light on Train Noise by Marriott Marina? Other than that, hotel gets some good reviews it seems...

Will be renting a car, so we'll go over to Coronado Beach by Del anyway..

2nd day, would you recommend LaJolla Beach for really nice beach? Someone I believe mentioned LaJolla Shores or something like that?

Pacific Beach is more college oriented they say...Any suggestions for 2 days of really awesome beach would be really appreciated!

Can't wait for our first San Diego trip!

Quite dramatic, aren't you.

The train tracks are adjacent to the 5 freeway in that area. The hotel is pretty far away. I doubt you'd even be able to hear it from the Marriott. Also that area is pretty heavily populated. I doubt the conductor uses the train horn around there anyway.

Yeah, many people complained about that. I read ALL the travel sites and it kept coming back. I ended up finding a deal on the Hilton across from Petco, which is perfect since I'm going to see the Cubs sweep the Padres.

Good luck, but I doubt you are going to hear it through the hotel walls up high. JMO though.

If you're going to use Marriott points, try a different Marriott, or keep trying Coronado.

I think you'll be fine at the Marriott Marine, just request a room higher up. The Gaslamp and downtown are nearby and like you said, you can take the bridge over to Coronado anytime you like.

The train tracks are like 500 feet away from the Marriot Hotel and Marina in Downtown. I work at the Ralphs on 1st and G. So if you do decide to get this hotel stop by and buy something haha.

But seriously, I believe you WILL be able to hear the train. I don't mean the trolley, because that guy is electric and pretty quiet. The big SANTA FE train that runs through there, which I haven't heard in a while might pose a problem to your train-phobia. I know I can hear that sucker from my house and I'm 28 blocks away.

Still, the downtown Marriott would be my choice.

I was at the Marriott Marina over the weekend. My room was in the North Tower overlooking the pool and marina, on the seventeenth floor. Never heard any train noise. I did enjoy the sound of the water. Enjoy your vacation. San Diego was awesome. Very close to Gaslamp. Service was good. The staff was friendly. Breakfast buffet was enjoyable.

Funny thing the other day I heard the train as I was leaving work. Reminded me of this thread.
