I know there are a lot of threads describing various areas, how they are to live, how the commute is, what kind of cost of living, the environment, neighborhood, etc. I just did a search for one of Sassberto's recent threads wherein he posted a reasonably long and semi-comprehensive list with comments against each location. Problem is he posts a fair bit (not complaining at all!) so I couldn't find it easily...

Would some of you be so kind as to post links if you have such bookmarked or otherwise recall them, perhaps because you are the one who posted? Sassberto, I hope you know which one I mean (and I know you discuss various areas in many posts but this one seemed to be quite a list, at least as I recall).

My wife will be making a house-hunting trip there soon and so far we (meaning I) have focused on Carlsbad, but she would like to visit other areas and see housing there too.

We would be looking for around 2500 sf with a reasonable commute (to where? not sure but let's say LaJolla) for between $570-650K, not too far inland (no hot weather!) and not too far north. I have semi-randomly drawn my northern line at or around the Batiquitos Lagoon, FWIW.

If you're looking at Carlsbad, you might as well make a pass through Encinitas, too. They're similar but also have distinct differences. Encinitas does fit your state criteria as far as coastal location, commute to La Jolla, and price range.
