San Diego = paradise
Every time I'm in San Diego, I wonder why in the heck anyone in SoCal would want to live anywhere else! We toured the Midway today, highly recommend that to anyone who hasn't done it yet. Anyhow....I would move down there in a hot second from OC if it was possible. We also stopped in Carlsbad for some drinks. So the point of my post is to tell everyone that lives in San Diego, you are very lucky!

Maybe because these place changed,it's mad expensive and it seems as if the middle class is getting "ran out" of there own hometown. There is not enough action and it seems as if the local lifestyle is 'conservative".Don't forget, there is about 3M people(5M incl BC) in our metro area so you have the normal robberies, homicides, car thefts, gangs just like any other area the same size.It is not paradise for everyone.

It IS what you make of it! For anyone living anywhere else in the country, any other state (I came from the eastcoast, midwest, south...) nothing compares. For those who have always lived in SD Im sure they have complaints because they may not have seen other areas or experienced life elsewhere. SD is fantastic I agree.

Does AK mean that you formerly are from Alaska?
I spend the summers in Alaska and to me there is no better place at that time of the year.

I think that if you are wealthy or one of those annual tourists/visitors from another part of the country (or world) who has a vacation home here, then this place is definitely paradise. Of course if you are a working class man or a service member like myself who doesn't have that much money, then this place is anything BUT paradise. Everything fun out here cost money in some way, shape or form. Going to the movies is expensive. Going to sporting events/concerts is expensive. The malls are very expensive places to shop. Gas is expensive. The clubs are rediculously expensive (especially with the alcohol). Rent is CRAZY expensive. The list could go on and on. Of course the biggest killer for me is the social scene. Many people out here are stuck in their own little world, and don't want to talk to anyone that is not in their circle of friends. If you are a people person and you like to make new friends, then this is not exactly paradise. Also, people will think you are weird for trying to help them. Kindness towards your fellow man is not something that really exist out here. What's pretty sad is that you have to be a complete JERK to get anywhere with people out here (even if you are a fairly good looking young man like myself). I always try to be respectful of others, but it get's me NOWHERE here, that is why I have recently had second thoughts about staying here for college. I have been thinking about moving to either Colorado (Denver/Colorado Springs) or Texas (Austin, Dallas, or Houston) for college, since those places still have plenty to do outdoors and socially (for me anyway) they are PARADISE, since people there are very friendly and willing to meet new people there, and the culture in those places is not "sexed-up" like it is in So Cal. Anyway, it all depends on what your idea of paradise is. For me, SD is not. For others, it is. Just remember that visting a place and actually living there are COMPLETELY different. I had to learn that the hard way.

I agree, visiting and living in a place is very different, but I have read your posts before. i don't know what makes you think movies, concerts, drinks, or sporting events are going to be much different in Austin or Colo Springs. I know they won't be in Austin. Accepting of different cultures, that I do not know and how much you know about Colorado Springs I am wondering. yes, they have a great outdoor life experience, but they are not all that accepting. It is a pretty conservative area. Though housing costs are out of sight in S.D. everything else will be priced about the same in Houston and Dallas. Have you ever lived in any of the places you are thinking of going to college?
To the OP, yes, San Diego is a paradise to many, but like everywhere, it has its drawbacks.

No, I have never lived in those places, but I have family in and around all of those places (except Houston; although I' am willing to take the risk with Houston since it is in Texas), and when I go to visit them, I usually spend a week in each place and me and my family do frequently spend time in the cities themselves. Of course, I know that alone doesn't mean that I know how everything is there, but then again, I know that EVERY place has its drawbacks. I also know that not everyone in each of those cities is friendly (I think that goes with anywhere though), but from my experience and time spent in those cities, I have found that the majority of them are.
