I think we should just level the wall and be done with it.

I'd say just leave as it is, I don't see why some people make such a big fuss about it when there are plenty of other beaches to use. Plus the city is broke, why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars it doesn't have for something that really isn't a problem except to those that make it one?

In the newspaper today one gentleman had a suggestion that only costs under 400 dollars.

Use a motion detector sprinkler system.

The one that they are going with costs over 800K.

Poor management at its best.

So lame. I can't think of any other beach in urban Southern California that isn't infested with people. We have plenty of other beaches to use, hundreds of miles of them! And we're talking about a little slither of a beach that's now become a huge tourist attraction. I think it's so incredibly stupid and we should be able to sacrifice some of our recreational areas for sake of the local ecosystem.

Yes it is lame. The seals will return once the city thinks they are gone. And I agree, there are more important issues the city should spend the money on.

If I had kids -

I'd take them to see the seals play in the water - at the Children's Beach.
If I wanted them to go see kids play in the water - I'd take them to another beach.
If I wanted my kids to swim - I'm take them to a pool.

My husband and I went there about a week ago and we absolutely appalled seeing people going right up the water's edge, scaring the seals from getting any closer (due to the removal of the "fence").

Who wanted this?? We seriously couldn't figure out, with all the other places for people to swim, who would fight against having the seals there??

Reminds me of when I lived in Naples, FL (another place seeping with bored rich people) and they tried to get a kid's lemonade stand shut down in a neighborhood for not having a business license.
