Default HILLCREST/SOUTH MISSION HILLS area?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me about HILLCREST/SOUTH MISSION HILLS area? WHat's it like? Is it the kind of place that would be safe for a family (decent schools)? What does it look like?

Thanks,
Ashley

Hillcrest isn't known as a family-friendly part of town. What I mean by this is that there aren't alot of kids in the area. It's better known for it's significant gay population and numerous restaurants and bars.

That said, it's safe and close to everything, i.e, Balboa Park, downtown, Old Town, the airport, etc. It's a hodgepodge of apartment/condos and older, charming homes.

Neighboring South Mission Hills (aka Park West/Banker's Hill) is where I used to live. It's mostly older homes with scattered apartments/condo throughout. Much quieter and less busy than Hillcrest. There aren't many kids in this area, either.

Hope this helps
