White and Black couple moving to SD? Any suggestions?
Hi All,
My husband and I are planning to move from NY to San Diego. We have family living in Downtown San Diego, however, we don't know if that is the area for us. My husband is white and I'm black. We are both educated and do well for ourselves. We want to live in an area where we will be accepted and not feel uncomfortable. We are middle class people and enjoy the beach ,hiking, riding and walking our dog. We want to live in a nice neighborhood. We are looking to rent for right now. We are looking to pay around $1500.
What areas would you recommend?

i'm African-American and new to SanDiego.
folkz on dis forum are helpful.
here is some areas you might like :
SouthEast San Diego
National City
City Heights
Rolando
Oak Park
Chollas Park
these are all cool hoodz that are accepting of African-Americans.
i'm rentin in LaJolla and i'm leaving soon, way too costly and not too African-American friendly.

Someone else will be able to give you better advice. What areas will you be working in? That will play a factor in where you want to live.

Please don't listen to the advice given to you above by blakazdog. He is not familiar with San Diego.
Are you comfortable where you live now? Have you explored the other neighborhoods immediately around downtown SD? Generally speaking, most interracial couples feel most comfortable in and around the city itself.

South Bay and the City of San Diego will be your best bet, much more diversity of people in those places. Stay away from East County it's Redneck populated with a small town mentality.
