Lyle Lovett sings a great song that goes, "That's right, you're not from Texas...but Texas wants you anyway..."

Come on over and see us sometime.
Texas has Austin and San Antonio, which are two of my favorite cities in the US.

Texas, like California, is an immense and diverse state that often falls victim to stereotypes and generalizations.

Some people think people from San Diego are stuck up, full of themselves, rude, pick your adjective. I don't see it, but whatever. That's what some people say. I think it's true of any city you go to. There are people like that in every city.

Yeah, I don't see it either. Most of my family lives in the NE (specifically Boston, NYC metro-Long Island and CT) and honestly I get much more of the snobby elitist attitude from people up here than here. Here no one's asking me where I went to college, or what I do for a living beyond casual conversation. I don't feel like I'm being "sized up" as much.

I used to think that people could make or break a place too, but then I started finding out from the places I've lived that once you get to know them, 80+% of people everywhere suck.

Also, the cost of living in SD isn't that high comparatively anymore. Many places have caught up.

I don't really get it either, especially the whole "rude" thing. People here are pretty damn nice and friendly imo and I really never even starting noticing much of the negative things people say about SD's people until I read this BS on the internet. I can see why some people might think what they do but really I think many of them are exaggerating and full of sh*t and they just look for extreme examples/stereotypes to justify their point of view. One will see some surgically enhanced bleached blond that sticks out like a sore thumb then claim all of San Diego is like that.

I'm not some overly nice, outgoing, smile all the time person at all yet I don't encounter rudeness here that often at all, at least not anymore than where I grew up and even a little less actually especially when it comes to snobs.

Also if people are constantly encountering rude or unpleasant people, maybe they ought to take a look in the mirror for why that is. Usually these types come across in a way that causes people to react towards them the way they do. Some of the rabid malcontents on here, all you have to do is take a quick look at their profile and it gives you a better sense of who they are and where their problems are coming from, usually it's themselves. Anyone remember the user "FunkyMonk" from a while back? Great example there.

Good point. I too would say that people here are nicer than where I grew up. People in small-town Missouri aren't too fond of strangers, no matter where you are from (and it doesn't matter if you are a native to the area, as I have found out from going back there to visit family several times).

I will admit, for Southern California, San Diego is as friendly as it gets. For me, even though I' am young and single, the culture of So Cal just doesn't work for me, so it's more of an issue with the region and not the city of SD itself. It's aiming more specifically at LA, The IE, The San Joaquin Valley and of course, the OC. The LA/OC metro, after all, is the main culprit of negative stereotypes of So Cal and pretty much all negative influences (i.e. Hollywood).

Locally, I have to ride the bus and the trolley everday to work (and anywhere else that I have to go), so I constantly have to deal with rudeness, personality issues, crazyness, wierdness, ect. That's really where I think my issues with this place stem from.

I believe without a doubt that SD is the most "normal" area in So Cal in terms of people. It also has the best surf and weather. Trust me, if I had the money right now, I would purchase a beach home in either La Jolla, Encinitas, Carlsbad or Ocean Beach/Pt. Loma (near Sunset Cliffs), go surfing EVERYDAY , and settle down out here, for GOOD.

Of course, if I someday have the money to do that..... That may just happen!

i was living in the university section of philly then. this was 4 years ago. my landlord shows my apartment to mommy and daddy and the 18 y/o girl who is about to go to college in the area. dad has the feel as if he owns a volvo dealership. i'm minding my business. dude asks me, after being in my nothing-unusual apartment, "so what do YOU do for a living"
that ***** is soooooooooo east coast...and how that breaks the ice at family getogethers [rolls eyes]...well, not MY family lol

What's going on? In an earlier post you said you hated San Diego for whatever reasons, and in the post above, things don't sound so bad.

Are you just trying to trick yourself into disliking it here, so it will make moving to Tulsa easier?
