I definitely agree regarding the snow. I grew up in the midwest and always looked forward to it. However, what I didn't like so much was the extremely cold North wind that is constantly howling there that time of the year. That wind can make 30 feel more like -10.

As for SD, I found everyone to be nice to me in my limited time there. Being a skinny tall asian with glasses always made me stick out in the Bible Belt, but not so much in SD.
Funny story, I was walking into a Starbucks in La Jolla and held the door open for two old ladies to come in. The ladies didn't acknowledge my existence at all, but no problems. When we were standing in line, one of the ladies turned around and stated "You aren't from around here are you?"

That is one thing I liked about San Diego and other multi-cultural cities like LA, NYC, Chicago, etc. I didn't matter as much if you were white, black, Hispanic, Asian, mixed, etc. In the South (not so much in the city of Atlanta but just 50-100 miles away) you would still get funny looks from people if you're not white. Here in Japan, you can get similar looks if you're not Japanese.

I personally miss the fashion of the east coast. Again weather plays a huge part of it. Its all a personal choice. No snow sucks for me.

Go to nearby Julian or Idlylwild for the white and then go home to no snow and ocean and mild temps in less than a couple hours

I do like the hi-class look of east coast girls. San Diego girls tend to dress more casual with flip-flops and shorts or short skirts/dresses, not that that style isn't hot. On the upside you see more skin on girls in SD.

you dont get it. Many of you don't. I don't wanna GO anywhere. I want to be able to look outside and see the snowfall. To make a snowman in my backyard with my kids. See the dog with a pile of snow on her nose Sure snow sucks sometimes, especially if your not active. The pros outweigh the cons for me when it comes to snow. There is so much beauty.

OMG do you ever. I will never forget my first Halloween here a few years ago. I moved here with my girl, (also a NYer). We went to a part and soon as we get there 3 girls walk down the stairs. First one was costumed as an angel, the second as the devil, and the 3rd as a cat. All 3 girls had there respective color bathing suit on, white, red, black. Angel had wings, Devil had horns, cat had black ears. My girl was about to slap the SHYT outta the first girl and called her a tramp. It was priceless.

That wind is a what happens when lakes freeze over, lakes as large as "The Great Lakes". How beautiful are those lakes in the summer? There is a positive and a negative to 99.9% of life. Depends on what side of each your on.

I don't disagree with you. I do miss the snow, but sometimes that wind is just brutal. It's cuts through you like a knife. Of course, I think it's worse in places like MO, and KS where I grew up because there are fewer trees around to block or lessen the effects of the wind.
Yes, the states around the Great Lakes are beautiful; during all seasons; as well as the lakes themselves. Back in 2000, I went on a vacation with my family to Duluth, MN and I loved it there. We also traveled the western coastline of Lake Superior from Duluth to Thunder Bay, Ontario, and the scenery was nothing short of amazing. Places like Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan are very nice. If anyone tries to tell you any different, just ignore them!

Area around Julian
Hmm, too bad most of the surrounding area of Julian burned down. Oh well, guess you don't notice in the snow dusting though. Well if you can find parking too.
