Henry's, Trader Joes, Smart & Final, 99 Ranch Market, and Costco. I agree of the major supermarkets Ralph's is the most reasonable, but I usually just shop there for sales or if they have something I'm out of that isn't being sold at the other places.

Our weekly rotation is pretty much Trader Joes, Henry's, some at Jimbo's if we're over that way and we always try to buy fruit and veggies at the Solana Beach farmers market on Sunday afternoons.
As a side note, we endulged last weekend for Father's Day barbecue and got sweet corn ($2 an ear, ouch) from Chino Farms in Rancho Santa Fe. Yes, it was very good on the grill.

I've been meaning to check out Windmill Farms as it's only about 10 minutes from me.

I try to shop based on who has the best values. I always check the weekly sales ads.
25% - Food4Less - great prices all the time, no club card needed
25% - 99 Cents Only Store - lots of bargains all the time.
20% - Ralphs - lots of good deals, I believe it's owned by same company as Food4Less
5% - Henrys - great deals on produce, produce is very fresh
5% - Carnival Supermarket - great deals on produce
5% - Keils Supermarket - occasionally has good deals
5% - Vons - only go for certain items when on sale
5% - Albertsons - only go for certain items when on sale
5% - Walmart

I tried North Park Produce last week, and although it was cheap... I don't know... it just seemed a little dirty. Maybe I'm just a wimp, but when I got home everything I got there had the same weird musty incense smell that was in the store. I don't think I'll be going back, unless I need an ethnic/specialty item.

They cater to a large ethnic community, so what you smelled were probably some spices. I go there all the time to get produce, and have never had a problem with anything I've bought there.

Did you see the back area with like the 10 different types of feta cheese? So cool!
What I got there was potatoes, and I think due to the starchiness they may have "soaked" in the scent. We ate them though, and they were fine.

Just wanted to say that I'm thinking Henry's is the best value for quality I've found... today I went there and bought 2 zucchini, 2 lbs strawberries, 8 lemons, 2 lbs white flour (bulk), 1.5 lbs granulated sugar (bulk), 4 potatoes, a pineapple, a parsley plant, 4 red bell peppers, 1 lb asparagus, and 1/2 pound parmesan cheese for about $20. Sweet!
