Looking for info on a specific area/block of Chula Vista!!
Hello All,
I'm still looking around. I am looking at Chula Vista as I see that my professional plans may be in National City. I do not want to move to National City as I hear it is not a very nice place to live. First let me start off by saying my budget is around $500k. I am looking in Eastern Chula Vista as I have read thanks to all of you that western is not the place to be either. The thing is I want an area that would be very safe for my son to play around outside and rather low crime. One house was referred to me and it is on the 300 block of Naples, pretty close to the intersection of Naples and 4th it looks like. Is this a good area for low crime? Please let me know, thanks.
J. Ryan

It's in a rough spot(4th and L)
Anywhere around Moss and 4th or South Central CV is pretty rough.
Look into the eastside. But I will warn you;there are problems out there too.We are a large city with some large city problems.

Otay Ranch is fine.Lot's of new developments(2000-present)
The only minor drawback is there is no real shopping areas in O.Ranch.But if you don't mind driving 10-15mins to Eastlake to shop then it's all good.

What do you mean? We have the huge and well stocked Otay Ranch Mall.

Town Center mall is in O.Ranch but it's pretty much in the Eastlake area.BTW;that mall sucks anyways.Too upscale for the South Bay.If they put in PLaza Bonita,Mission Valley or Parkway type stores that place would be a whole lot better.

Hmmm. Different strokes. We like it, and they have a lot of stores that cater to our tastes. I guess the Coach Store and Guess store are a little high falutin', but there are plenty of regular retail stores that are not upscale, and that you would find in any mall in Anytown USA.
Technically Eastlake? I'm new to the area so I don't know how the territory works. It says Otay Ranch, we live right across from it, so I consider it Otay Ranch.

Yeah, I really had no basis for thinking it was in Eastlake - I mostly just got that idea in my head because I saw it on a map and it looked closer to Eastlake than Otay. LOL
I went down there a few weeks ago for the farmer's market and I thought it was SUPER nice! Not to sound snobbish.. but I wouldn't exactly call it too upscale as others have described. When I think upscale I think of malls that carry Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi stores, etc. Think Beverly Center, Fashion Show in Vegas, etc.

Take what you read in these forums with a grain of salt.
The area you mentioned at 4th and Naples wasn't even part of CV until about 25 years ago when it annexed itself to the city. Before that it was called Castle Park. You can do a lot better. Now, do you want a new house or an older house? True, the new houses are generally in the east, but there are some fine older homes, even some 1 million + homes (even now) on the west side in the Country Club and Peppertree/Hilltop areas.
And why some insist on calling Otay Ranch too upscale when its anchor stores are Macy's, REI and Best Buy is beyond me.
