i have considered PB and OB. the first time i visited, i had a friend living in PB and i was in love w/ the n'hood. i have just heard so many negative things about it. i have heard that there is an extreme amount of what you call "socal douchebaggery". garnett ave is like south street (philly) with a beach at the end of it. i would definitely want to be somewhere where i can hook up w/ some musicians and get involved in the scene.

you dont' consider downtown SD an urban core? i agree that its layout is way different than philly, but downtown seemed be a typical mid size city atmosphere complete with beggars, freaky deakys, and skyscrapers.

Ding ding ding - you nailed it. Funny, I never put it together Am usually ontop of my associations. But it's so true. Garnet is the South Street of SD.

Lot's of musicians in OB. Lots of music in SD all together as we have an awesome music scene. But OB, we got the farmers market, bands play there all the time - I met a many musicians just hanging out. Portugalia is were all the song writers perform. Winstons has locals too. And we got buskers that are half way decent.

Jay619 is on a distinguished road
I live in otay ranch in chula vista, it's a suburban area.. My next door neighboor is black and his wife is white.. nice ppl... Nobody bugs them bout shyt, Ppl in San Diego r hella chill nd laid back but get done wat needs to get done wen we work so we hav more time to play. My dad even says hi wen they see each other.. Nd they r not frends at alllllll. The newer parts of chula vista(otay ranch, eastlake, otay Mesa etc) have nice big houses, not mansion big but their big =] nice for families. The area is clean as well. On the other hand downtown cv and the older areas ehhhh hahaha not as good, their ok I guess.

Hillcrest is a good area for musicians too. its close to downtown but I'd say it has alot more culture. it is lgbt friendly which usually means its a great area for cool restaurants, shops, and venues for muscians, which is true. I actually am moving there august 1st because of how diverse it is and its right in the middle of most of the freeways so commuting isnt bad so that'd be a good area to check out, the neighborhoods of university heights and mission hills is also close by but is a little more rundown. as for PB yeah a large portion of the population are douches but I've also met alot of cool down to earth people, alot of artists.
