I guess I have been clueless about this until now. I was told that each city in San Diego County has its own sales tax. Vista is different than El Cajon, Santee is different than Encinitas etc. How can I find out what is where?
Thanks.

California City and County Sales and Use Tax Rates - Cities, Counties and Tax Rates - California State Board of Equalization

Yeah it varies as each city has their own tax, plus the county tax and state tax rates. This all combines to give you your tax rate in a particular city.

It is amazing how high the sales tax rate has gone up. I think like 20 some years ago they increased it a percent or so to cover the damages caused by the earthquakes in SF area which was a temporary rate hike. Obviously that rate was never dropped back down, why would they?

Still, State of CA has managed to make crappy investments and budget management to find itself broke over and over so they raised the rate again, permanently of course.

Every $1 you spend will cost you a dime.

Yup it just went up 1% in April. Like it wasn't bad enough before, heh.

Thanks for the info. I certainly will not be buying anything in Vista or El Cajon. 8 something percent is enough for me.
