Default Single Sailor to San Diego

Hi I am in the Navy and thinking of transferring to SD. Right now I am stationed in WA where it is cold and rainy most of the year so I would like to go to somewhere sunny. I am 25 and single. I enjoy the beaches and riding my motorcycle. I am an E-5 so I make roughly 50K a year, probably more in SD due to higher housing allowance. Is SD a good place for a single male to move to? I would be interested in getting to know alot of new people around my age. I also would like to drive to other places like Las Vegas and Mexico.

I'm from Tucson, but I know SD very well, so in a word: yes. come on down! You'll find millions of other navy kids you can relate to as well!

Default Yes, it is

You didn't say which base you'll be attached to...that will make a difference as to what part of town you'll be. However, if you love beaches, you'll probably love San Diego. If you're in Coronado, all the better. Yeah, wish I was back there. If you can get involved with some group activity like sports all the better. You'll have the adventure of a lifetime there if you're open for it. I did '

Regarding the singles scene; yes, it is the perfect place if you are looking for something short-term (i.e. non-commentment). However, if you are looking for something serious, long-term, then No. As for driving to Vegas and Mexico: Vegas is only a 5 hour trip North on the 15. As for Mexico, be aware of all of the extra restrictions and requirements that service members have to go through just to spend a weekend there. All of the drug cartel violence going on down there has made going to Mexico a major pain in the a**.

Ok cool let me know some more info:

1. I have been to San Diego a many times through port calls. Mostly visit Gaslamp district as thats where the bus drops us off. I liked it but dont get to explore too much as we dont have a car down there and we are only there for a 1-2 days at the most.

2. I dont drink and club alot as alot of single sailors do. I like to go out to the bars every so often maybe every other weekend or so. I like SD for the fact that alot of things are close by. In WA you have to drive 8 hours to get out of the northwest atmosphere unless you like Canada.

3. I would mostly be attached to Coronado/North Island/32nd street area. I looked up E-5 BAH I think it was like $1680 can you get a good single apartment with a secure garage? I dont like roommates and want a secure apartment building as I have a modded car and motorcycle.
