Why do they shoot at his car?

According to this map, half of San Diego County is located in a gang injunction zone.

San Diego County District Attorney
Those are just the city boundaries. Gang injunctions are neighborhood-specific down to the street.

Ok, I see now. For a second there I thought that my condo was located in the middle of South Central San Diego.

In NJ,We were living in an area that had drug bags on the ground, and you could never leave your car unlocked. My daughter used to be in Camden, which had the distinction of being, literally, the worst city in the US. We moved here to get away from that kind of environment. In El Cajon, people said that is a bad place to live, but other than the fact that it is predominantly an arabic area, I think it's fine.
Now that we are moving to Linda Vista, I am just now finding out that there is a gang history here.
But honestly, I cant imagine it being any worse than what I came from a year ago. After I have lived there 6 months, I will give you a totally unbiased update. Wish me luck....
I would move to Clairemont instead of Linda Vista.

It's right next to Linda Vista. Same zip code - 92111.

I would say the worst areas of Linda Vista are along some of the smaller streets near Linda Vista Rd and Genesee Ave.

You'll notice how the houses look run down on those streets.

As you travel west on Linda Vista Rd, the closer you get to the college and Fashion Valley, the better the area gets gets.

I doubt you will find anything like Camden anywhere in San Diego. Maybe down south near National City?

Clairemont is similar to far Northeast Phila.

It's a residential area, and mostly peaceful, middle-class neighborhood. Lots of single family homes. Several shopping centers. A movie theater.

Plus it's a real short drive from Clairemont to Mission Bay, the beaches, Mission Valley malls, La Jolla, and almost everything else, since it's centrally located.

Hi,
My boyfriend and I just moved into an apartment on Linda Vista Rd a week ago. We are both first time apartment owners. I talked to a cop that was sitting on the side of the road and was todl that the area we are in isnt to bad. he said that the main thing he gets all out there for is for noise complains for people having their music up to loud and that everythign is mainly north east of us as far as gang activity and break ins and stuff. Well on my 3rd day there i work at 6 am so i was on my way to the car at liek 530 in teh morning and saw someone in my apartment building trying to break into a car 2 spots away from me. it was still dark outside so i jumped in my car as fast as a i could n took off. Obviously i called the cops, but seriously should we be reconsidering moving? We only got a six month lease. i like the location of the apartments im just ify on the area. I guess im just lookign for some resurement that Im not gana get jumped on my way to the car or something.

No offense, but you really need to take a grammar/spelling review class. Adult ed has them for free, I think, at most community colleges. I know this sounds rude---but I am being sincere.
Best Wishes.

I live on those smaller streets near LV Rd. and Genesee. I've been living happily here for 15 years and like my neighbors (OK, except one, but everyone has a neighbor they don't like, right?). I tend to think OceanView is OK. Car theft happens everywhere (my neighbor in Mission Hills had her car stolen, I had mine stolen in PB, my husband's was stolen in Normal Heights). Then again, my neighbors are mostly homeowners, rather than renters, so what do I know? All I know is that I stick up for LV as a great multicultural neighborhood. The houses have character and the backyards are huge. I feel safe here. Great Vietnamese food is everywhere, cheap.

Also, I'm a community college English teacher, and I say give OceanView a break. Online posts and emails are considered informal and errors should be tolerated. If she were writing a job application or college essay it would be a different story.

I went driving through Linda Vista the other day out of curiosity since we had moved to Serra Mesa nearby. If I gone through there without having read this thread prior, I would never have guessed that it was a gang injunction area. It's like when you do a google maps streetview of Compton, and it doesn't look that bad at all. I guess they have their gun battles at night when they come home from a hard day at the office

lol I know how to spell. I was at work trying to put a post up as fast as i could without getting into trouble.
UPDATE::
So we've been living here for about 3 weeks now. The third day I was here I was walking to my car at 5:30 am and caught a guy trying to break into a car 3 cars down from where i was parked! Yay...of course I reported it and of course I still haven't even gotten a call back from a detective meaning they still haven't officially opened a case. Heres the kicker...my boyfriend got an alarm on his car that pages a pager on his key ring if the alarm sounds off....well last night at abut 1:30am someone decided to break into his car. Nothing was stolen looked like the guy just smashed the window and as soon as the alarm went off he took off running. We called the cops...no prints were on the car so they are obviously not gonna be able to find out who did it, but I have a feeling its the same guy that tried to break into the first car 2 weeks earlier. I'm getting really irritated that the people running this place wont even invest in a pair of cameras to put in the parking lot.
