SD -Humboldt squid
There was a big story on the news this a.m. about the giant Humboldt squid that have appeared along the SD coast. Just wondering if any of you have encountered these creatures?

They are still off La Jolla and many local banks. Actually they've been sighted year round for a few years now so it appears they don't move far.

I saw two of them (or maybe the same one twice?).
It washed up on the shore in North Pacific Beach, near Law St around a week ago.
Someone picked it up and carried it into the water.
Then an hour later, it washed up again.
It was around the size of a small seal.
Both times, someone just picked it up from the sand with their bare hands, and carried it out into the water.
I overheard the second person who carried it say it was still alive.
The guy grabbed it by the head, and you could see the large tentacles hanging down.

This being an El Nino year, we'll probably see some crazy stuff off the coast. During the last El Nino, I recall species that normally stayed to the south of us, were being caught and seen offshore.

Interesting - bare hands - I imagine they are somewhat harmless when out of their element. As you have probably guessed, I'm intrigued by the creatures of the sea - my next life I plan to be a marine biologist! Hope there are still some left .
