Thoughts on the La Mesa area
I will be relocating for a job next month. I've been looking at the Chula Vista and La Mesa areas. Now, the job location is right in downtown near Gaslamp. How is the area, commute, etc.
Thanks

If you do a search for La Mesa, CA, you should find answers to most of your questions.

Most of La Mesa is really nice.
However, there are some apartments near Grossmont Center that are filled with undesirables.
These are gang members and prison paroles from the Gang Injunctions.
These guys and their families come from City Heights, South Encanto and Lincoln Park, etc.....
And they are preying on La Mesa citizens and businesses through armed robberies.
And the trolley stations are increasingly dangerous because of armed robberies.
We all hope that law enforcement can get a handle on this.

I can't help you with car commutes, but you might find some good enough public transportation. The place to look for public transportation is: San Diego Metropolitan Transit System

I wouldn't listen too much to SD Observer. He is the poster formerly known as Blakazdog and seems to like to trash La Mesa. Those new apartments look pretty nice. The older ones in the area are sketchy.

Dude take a couple of steps back. ........... If you had bothered to actually read my post, my opening line is that MOST OF LA MESA IS REALLY NICE.
I don't bash La Mesa. I merely reported on the well known crime increase in western La Mesa and around the trolley. Check the official crime reports.
And that guy blackazdog sure is not me !!!

Have you considered the Granite Hills section of El Cajon ?
Also try looking at Santee and La Mesa north of Hwy 8.
And in SD itself, try Del Cerro, Allied Gardens and San Carlos neighborhoods.
