El Cajon has some really nice areas up in the hills and some gritty spots in the valley. ............ What are the cross streets you are talking about ?

not a great area. Packed with low-rent apartments. Look at Lemon Grove or La Mesa instead. Worst areas of La Mesa are better than that part of El Cajon.

The houses/apartments around that area are very cramped. I used to be around there some and although it's not necessarily "bad", I wouldn't choose to live there.
