I like those little cottages...they're small, but rustic. A little yard space for a garden (of the non-mj variety) would give Dave a good hobby.
The only places I see in PB advertising on craigslist are way back by the freeway...if I lived in PB, I'd want to be walking distance from Trader Joe's. I miss that store!

The cottages where I live in North Park are about four feet apartment, and the pot smoke would not be tolerated, nor appreciated.......

I didn't want to give the impression that he's blowing it out the window. He doesn't do it with the window open, but that is a good point. Cottages do tend to be rather packed together. I think that the proximity of neighbors might bother me in other ways. Unless they were set more apart.

You can find actual one bedroom houses that aren't too close to each other. I'm in a complex of 10 cottages and eight duplexes, and they're close. Just keep looking on Craigslist, and something will come up.

Just shut all your windows, and buy some sort of air purifier that will definitly help. Yes the County Board Of Stupidvisors (ultra conservatives) are really the main people that are so against the use of medical marijuana. Diane Jacobs (the main fighter) has been fighting against this medical use law for a long time. I mean SD County has refused to obey state law, and still doesn't want to recognize that marijuana helps people with serious medical conditions. Regular prescription drugs kill more people than anything, and the drug companies should be shut down because of all the deaths that they have caused. But the Gov wont touch them, since they are too powerful, too rich, and much too profitable to stop. So whats killing more people every year, percsription drugs, or marijuana? Such an easy answer, but hard core conservatives like County Board of Dumbo's still refuse to believe that marijuana is safe and should be prescribed to patients that need it the most such as AIDS and MS patients.
Also another sneaky trick that the County wants to do, is actually to ban dispensaries altogether. There trying to go around state law, and trying to create there own in order to stop the use of sale in the county. It's sneaky and wrong.
This is the kind of crap that really gets to me when it comes to the County. It's honestly all the old farts that are sitting on there cushy throan for the past 10 or so years. They need to finally be voted out, once and for all if acceptance is what we want!
Anyways

It does concern me that local communities have so much ability to regulate state laws; a ban on dispensaries would either force patients to grow their own or else buy it on the street. But even dispensaries are crazy expensive and practically unaffordable for someone on a fixed income.
I read yesterday that Ukiah is banning backyard gardens and even San Diego law requires that plants be grown only in secured areas, i.e., indoors. People on SSI, like Dave, can't really afford the equipment. Community gardening is a possibility, though I've read that the County is trying to shut down these collectives as well.
I agree about pharmaceuticals: in Dave's case, the antipsychotics he takes can cause involuntary facial jerks, the inability to sit still, diabetes, extreme weight gain, and even sudden death. They take weeks to work and then the brain becomes used to them after a few months and they lose whatever punch they had, which was negligible to begin with. Marijuana stops his symptoms like pacing, agitation, depression, delusional/disorganized thinking, continuous laughing and mania within minutes, whereas the pharmaceuticals seldom if ever have any noticeable effect. And he's tried all the atypicals on the market. With cannabis, he's able to sit down and interact with people. It doesn't have the same effect on people like him that it does on those who just use it recreationally.
San Diego, for all the conservativism of its leaders, however, is the perfect fit for both of us. LA is too big and crazy, Fresno/Bakersfield is even more conservative, SLO is too small, the Bay area is crazy expensive and Northern CA is too cold and rainy much of the year for those who benefit from year-round outdoor therapy (in nature) as much as we both do. San Diego has the perfect climate, outdoor activities, compactness, and isn't as susceptible to natural disasters as areas further north. Hopefully, we can make it work there!

anywhere in the zip codes of...
92105, 92113, 92114, 92102
rents cheap, and marijuana is a fairly common aroma in these areas so nobody will mind
and dont mind the random gun shots, just duck walk under windows and you'll be straight!

The City of SD is not doing that, just some of the smaller more conservative surrounding suburbs.

There is a very good reason for that though, the problem there has gotten ridiculous with everyone trying to grow and it's not really for "medical" purposes either. Neighbors have just gotten sick of it and its understandable. It's too bad that this area is starting to get ruined by too much weed cultivation and the shady people it brings. Weed runs the economy of that town and you can smell it in the air certain times of year.

They're just going about it the wrong way. What they need to do is build a huge incense factory nearby. Problem solved.
