Default Locations for a Home

I am 29, about to be married, and can afford probably a max of $450,000 as a first time home buyer. I am looking for a detatched single family house and not condos right now.

Before I moved to San Diego, I was thinking RB would be a good place to buy. After coming here, I am leaning more towards the areas closer to the ocean where it isn't as hot. My ideal place is probably University City, but with what I can afford, it doesn't seem likely at the moment.

What do people recommend? How is North Clairemont? Clairemont Mesa West / East? Are those good enough for a starter home until I can afford University City? Any other places that is good to start?

Thanks.

Depends on other things... do schools matter?

Clairemont is a good choice as long as you aren't too concerned about local schools and some raggedy houses in the neighborhood, otherwise, not sure what other options you will have in the coastal corridor for a detached home at that price point.

I live in NW Clairemont (Bay Ho). Clairemont has it's good parts and not-so-good parts. Generally, the nicer parts of Clairemont border Mission Bay / Soledad Mtn on the west and University City on the north.

Here's a nice SFH in a nice area that fits your price range:
SDLookup.com | 3587*Conrad - MLS# 090043023

The $450K market is pretty hot right now. You'll probably get more to choose from later in the year.
