Pretty much anywhere from Coronado north is fine for swimming, the water is pretty clear and clean at most SD beaches.
And the direction of the longshore current is ....

But people imagining that Mexican sewage ends up in say PB probably have no idea what a longshore current is.

I had been looking forward to be able to swim. Up north in the Sierra foothills (where I lived for many years) we used to swim in the river, and it was always such a wonderful experience, very clean and gorgeously beautiful. I really miss that. I used to swim in the Mediterranean (Aegean) sea and in the Philippines (amazing snorkling!) a lot too, always enjoyed it very much.
So no, honestly I never got myself to go into the ocean here.....when I saw that smelly dirty foam on the water along Sunset Cliffs.
My inquiry about public saline pools is for our son. I want to teach him swimming, and he doesn't take well to chlorine. So that's why. Maybe I can get convinced to get over my doubts about our ocean here....
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Yeah I can't stand all those yucky plankton due to our upwelling. / sarc

Is the mission Beach plunge gone now. I use to swim in that huge pool for years. I don't remember if that was salt though. I'm told la fitness clubs use salt.
