Are there any sites where we can find houses for rent? We tried Craigslist, but it's mostly apartments. We're looking to move to Hillcrest once our lease is up in October.

Nice single-family rental homes are pretty hard to find in Hillcrest. You may need to broaden your search a bit. Maybe zip code 92116.

realtor.com generally has houses for rent that are listed with the MLS. You can search by zip code or city. I don't think all rentals in the MLS are on there, but it's a start (the listing will also mention the real estate agency handling the property, so another option might be to either go to that agency's site to see if they have more rentals listed there or to call the agency directly to see if they have any others).
