I agree 100 percent with CaliforniaBear and all others that have gotten harassed by incompetent police. Most PD cases are solved by tip-offs, not investigative work.
I have always wondered why people are so adamant about the US&A being "a free country" when it is clearly NOT SO. Cops lie routinely under oath, court systems are corrupt and therefore disconnected from the general public; politicians in hand with CEOs screw the common folk in favor of private agendas and greed.

Go to Europe dudes! You will realize that society has other ways of taking care of business.
Having lived in LA for 12 years I can clearly see the inspiration drawn for movies such as "Escape from LA" and "Strange Days".
Nevertheless there will always be the bullies and the bullied in a ‘wannabe democracy’ where a bunch of bible thumpers get together and lynch minorities, burn witches and elect village idiots as president 4 times! (Ronald, Walker….)

In a police stop of any kind knowing your rights is a key guideline. You have many rights, among them to request the badge number of the officer and to file a complaint against any harassment. Here are some more.

Know Your Rights: What To Do If You're Stopped By Police, Immigration Agents or the FBI | American Civil Liberties Union

Stay polite and calm and request information without being hostile. Always show both hands open and facing the officer. Do not reach into your pockets unless requested to do so. Police are afraid and rightly so. Sudden movements hostile tone send signals which they will respond to. At times cops call in reinforcements. It is important to ask if you are being detained arrested and if not then are you free to go. Finally, remember that police are looking for needles in haystacks. They don't know you. If you are courteous, informed and not afraid you will be on your way in no time. You are small potatoes. If however, they press the issue, you may assert your right to not answer questions and request an attorney. If you are not under arrest they will typically sign off on detaining you. Be firm and speak with a low tone. You are in control of 75% of the encounter.

Be informed. Be safe.
