I have lived here for 45 years....its a great town...but it is becoming more like LA. I do not like that. It is hard to afford a comfortable quality of life...the stressors higher costs of taxes, utilities, GASOLINE, housing prices, and traffic, to name just a few of my main concerns, make it hard.

And yes, the weather is great, but for me...four seasons are better. Four seasons does not mean 12 feet of snow in sub-zero weather...there is a middle ground.

But on the other hand...if SD works for you...more power to you! It has been a wonderful place to live...I am just saying that I choose to spend the rest of my life somewhere else for my own reasons. Peace.

I've lived in SD for a little over a year now and, while I've encountered rudeness, it's not moreso than my hometown. Depending on my mood at the time I do encounter it, though, I can either live and let live or dish it right back out.

If you search other cities on here you'll see similar posts. People are going to say good and bad things about all cities.

I don't live in San Diego but people seem to be a bit friendlier than LA and some parts of Orange County.

Default Polite and friendly

I have addressed this before but will again- I live on the East Coast now but grew up in North County. I worked in retail and also commuted to South County so I have a pretty good handle on the level of rudeness. I will tell you that I personally find SD to be in general very polite and friendly. Now I am talking "stranger friendly" not "down home cook you a meal" friendly. Since moving to the East Coast I have been astounded at how people straight up ignore you. For instance, at the store you walk up to the counter and do not even get a greeting. No "hi" no "did you find everything you need?"...no "thank you" "have a nice day"...you can finish an entire transaction from start to finish with not a single word exchanged. My husband and I commented one time that everyone in our city seems depressed lol. That is one thing Vitamin D exposure helps with I suppose lol- in SD you get more sun so people are just generally more friendly haha. In SD you would get people that were rude occassionally but here its like constant. As for the road rage, well that happens but it isn't that big of a deal. It's like a punchline lol. As for neighbor friendliness, it's the same here as it was in CA. I have some friends who live in cul-de-sacs and one has great neighbors with BBQ's and Black Parties and another who has the worst neighbors who all talk behind each others backs etc. Its just the luck of the draw

OP- You said that people in MA were rude and ignorant? I lived in MA (I don't anymore) and if it weren't for the insanely cold weather I'd move back in a heartbeat. Everyone says that new englanders are rude and I didn't find that at all. They aren't up-your-ass friendly... but why should anyone be. Anyway, you mentioned something about going out on a Sat night to find that all the women are man haters? Maybe that was your experience in MA. Which I'm sure that, you being a guy, would make you hate any geographical location. Personally, I'm weary of people that are nice as hell right off the bat... And where women are all over random guys they just met on a Saturday night. haha!
